The newly launched Kickstarter project, Ouroboros Tarot, is a tarot deck designed to capture the profound symbolism and timeless wisdom of the tarot, all while exploring the deep philosophical concept of Ouroboros. This project follows the creator Quan’s earlier success with the OCULUS Tarot Playing Cards, which innovatively combined tarot with traditional playing cards. Fortunately for us, Quan felt that the true essence of tarot deserved its own spotlight, leading to the creation of the Ouroboros Tarot.
The Ouroboros symbol, depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail, represents the unity of all things—material and spiritual—that are in a constant state of flux, creation, destruction, and re-creation. This philosophy resonates deeply with the essence of tarot, which is all about understanding the cycles of life, personal growth, and self-reflection. The Ouroboros Tarot aims to unite these themes, offering a deck that delves into the interconnectedness of the universe, transcending time, space, and cultural boundaries.
Quan, a graphic designer and architect with a background in fine arts and design education from prestigious institutions in the US and Italy, has poured his passion into this project.
“We are all artists with unique souls,” Quan explains, emphasizing the deck’s commitment to artistry, with all illustrations being hand-drawn, free from any AI involvement.
In the narrative journey of the Ouroboros Tarot, the Fool embarks on a quest through the realm of dreams, encountering the 21 Major Arcana who impart life lessons. These major cards guide users through significant stages of transformation, self-discovery, and universal truths, reflecting the cosmic forces that shape our lives.
Interwoven with these are the 56 Minor Arcana, which delve into the subtleties of day-to-day experiences. Each suit of the Minor Arcana represents different aspects of life:
- Wands (Fire): Linked to the will, personality, and spiritual consciousness, Wands deal with ambition, action, and the drive that fuels our inner fire.
- Cups (Water): Associated with emotions, relationships, and intuition, Cups explore the depth of our feelings and the fluidity of our emotional world.
- Swords (Air): Representing the mind and intellect, Swords challenge us with themes of truth, logic, and the power of thoughts, often highlighting the balance between clarity and conflict.
- Pentacles (Earth): Focusing on material aspects, such as work, finances, and physical well-being, Pentacles ground us in the realities of the physical world and the importance of nurturing and growth.
