Review – Recipes for Good Luck: The Superstitions, Rituals, and Practices of Extraordinary People
I am having so much fun reading Recipes for Good Luck: The Superstitions, Rituals, and Practices of Extraordinary People by Ellen Weinstein. We hear so much about tech founders sharing their rituals – waking up at 5am, exercising, strong cup of conflict-free coffee – it’s quite refreshing to read about the superstition practices of some famous people.
Alfred Hitchcock, for example, made it a habit to make a cameo in his films or he feared that they might be box office flops. Maybe M. Night Shyamalan should do the opposite.
Other interesting anecdote includes Coco Chanel’s fascination with the number 5. Her wildly famous perfume is Chanel No. 5 and she presented her collections on the fifth day of May for good luck.
The stories are presented in a succinct form with accompanying illustrations. The book makes for a good afternoon read or a nice gift for someone who’s into superstitions.
