A new Kickstarter campaign has been launched for Jude’s World, a solo tarot-based journaling tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) that puts players in the shoes of a precocious preteen navigating the complexities of family and growing up. Created by Yvris Burke, the game offers a unique twist on the classic “Parent Trap”-style narrative, blending elements of 90s sitcoms like Boy Meets World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Clarissa Explains It All with a coming-of-age comedy-drama.
In Jude’s World, players assume the role of Jude, a 12-year-old determined to reunite their estranged parents, Mika and Jamie, who are on the brink of divorce. The game explores themes of family, love, and self-discovery as players guide Jude through a series of life events, traps, and sentimental discoveries that shed light on their family’s past. Using a Rider-Waite tarot deck and a pair of six-sided dice, players generate story prompts and navigate through the twists and turns of Jude’s journey.
The campaign offers various reward tiers, including a full-color zine with game rules, a printed companion workbook, and digital formats for backers. The proceeds will fund the final layout and the first print run of the game, with fulfillment expected by Christmas 2024.
Yvris Burke, known for her previous Kickstarter success with Drama Llamas, draws on personal experience as a child of divorce to create a game that is both heartfelt and reflective. The project also features cover art by Indonesian graphic designer and architect Mega Asellia.
With the campaign now live, backers can support Jude’s World from just £8 and experience a nostalgic trip down memory lane while exploring the challenges of adolescence and family dynamics.
