Kickstarter Campaign: The Art of the Hand of Doom

A thrilling new Kickstarter campaign has just launched for The Art of the Hand of Doom, an 84-page, A4-sized hardcover art book featuring the stunning artwork from the successful Hand of Doom Tarot Deck. This project promises to showcase the intricate details of the tarot cards in a larger format, with high-quality binding and 100lb paper stock to ensure brilliantly clear reproductions of every pen stroke.

Each image in the book was meticulously hand-drawn by the artist Jonathan Grimm, using pen and brush in ink, and formatted for the highest quality. The Hand of Doom Tarot Deck, a 78-card collection based on the classic Rider-Waite arcana, is infused with Doom Metal and Dark Fantasy themes. The deck features a mix of guitars, amps, monsters, magic, tattoos, fae, werewolves, whiskey, science fiction, and sorcery, making it a unique blend of pure 70s pulp, because why not?

The tarot deck follows the classic format, including the 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana (Swords, Cups, Wands, Pentacles), so anyone familiar with the Rider-Waite system will feel at home. For newcomers, a how-to guide is available on the artist’s website.

The Kickstarter campaign starts from US$25 offers a range of rewards, including the hardcover art book, the standard 78-card deck, the Limited SILVER deck, three exclusive silver foil prints, glow-in-the-dark guitar picks, and previous decks and books by the artist. The Limited Edition Silver Deck, featuring silver holo-faced cards, silver gilt edging, and a custom magnetic book box, is particularly notable. Only 100 of these hand-signed and numbered decks were made, with about 40 remaining.

Jonathan Grimm, who has over 10 years of experience as a professional freelance illustrator, emphasizes that all the work is already complete. The tarot deck, art book, and prints are ready to ship, ensuring backers won’t face long wait times. The estimated shipping date is set for December, but the artist expects to start shipping sooner, barring any production delays.

To further entice backers, the campaign includes stretch goals. At $4,000, everyone who pledges a physical item will receive an exclusive bookmark, with more stretch goals to be announced as the campaign progresses. The artist’s previous decks including The Bound Tarot and The FaeBound Tarot are also available as an add-on.
